Web Desk: A moderate earthquake struck Barkhan and surrounding areas on Wednesday afternoon, briefly triggering panic as residents rushed out of their homes, officials said. However, authorities reported no immediate casualties or damage.
Tremors felt across the region
Residents felt the tremors at around 4:30 p.m., with the shaking lasting for several seconds. As a result, people poured into streets and open areas, many reciting prayers amid fears of aftershocks, witnesses said.
Despite the alarm, the situation quickly stabilized and normal activity gradually resumed.
Magnitude and epicenter confirmed
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in Islamabad said the earthquake measured 4.2 in magnitude and occurred at a depth of 25 kilometers.
According to the PMD, the epicenter was located about 27 kilometers northeast of Barkhan, at latitude 30.18 north and longitude 69.54 east.
No damage reported so far
So far, authorities have received no reports of loss of life or property damage. Nonetheless, officials said they remain vigilant as a precaution.
The PMD added that it is closely monitoring the situation and will issue updates if further seismic activity is detected.
