UK admissions system

The British government has introduced a new travel system for individuals traveling to the United Kingdom from 85 countries. Meanwhile, most passengers traveling from Pakistan to the UK will be able to use the e-visa service.

According to the official website of the Government of the United Kingdom, applicants seeking tourist visas can now submit their applications online. However, they will still be required to visit a visa center once for biometric verification.

Under the new system, visa holders will have a digital record of their immigration status. Applicants will also receive a code that can be shown to relevant authorities at the time of travel.

In a statement, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott said that applicants will no longer need to submit their passports to the visa office during the processing period. Instead, travelers will retain their passports while their e-visa application is being processed.

It is worth noting that last year the UK introduced the e-visa facility for Pakistani students and job seekers.

At the same time, the UK’s new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system has come into effect from February 25, 2026.

According to the British government, the new system is aimed at improving immigration controls. However, it may create complications for certain dual nationals.

What is ETA?
The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a digital permission required for entry into the UK and applies to travelers from 85 countries. Pakistan is not included in the list of countries eligible for ETA.
