diesel shortage hits the country amid price hike rumours

ISLAMABAD: A nationwide diesel “shortage” has surfaced throughout the country just days before another revision in petroleum prices.

According to media reports, several private oil companies have stopped supplying diesel in Islamabad, triggering shortages in different areas

The Petroleum Dealers Association confirms that private firms have not provided diesel for the past three days.

Dealers allege that companies have intentionally created an artificial shortage. They argue that PSO’s supply alone is not enough to meet demand across the country.

From November 16, fuel prices are expected to change again. According to sources, it is likely that petrol may drop by Rs1.96 per litre, while diesel could rise by Rs9.60 per litre in view of the international market trends.

Kerosene may go up by Rs8.82, and light diesel oil by Rs7.15 per litre.

In Islamabad, OGRA will submit its price workings to the Petroleum Division on November 15. The Petroleum Division and the Finance Ministry will then forward their joint summary to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The revised petroleum prices will be announced once the prime minister gives his approval.

It should be recalled that on November 1, the federal government announced an increase in the prices of petroleum products.

According to which, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 2.43 per liter while the price of diesel was increased by Rs 3.2 per liter.
