Cricket Introduces New ‘Test Twenty’ Format Featuring Boys and Girls

Cricket is poised to enter a transformative era with the announcement of Test Twenty, featuring girls and boys in the same team.

In this tournament, boys and girls will contribute to the overall score of the same team, despite playing separate innings.

The unique tournament will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from November 14 to 29, 2026.

According to the organisers, 160 young cricketers aged between 13 and 21 will participate in the competition and be divided into four continental teams. Each team will consist of 20 boys and 20 girls.

Under this format, boys will compete against boys and girls against girls. However, the winner will be decided on the basis of their combined scores.

Each match will consist of 80 overs, with 40 overs played during the day using a red ball and traditional white clothing, while the remaining 40 overs will be played under floodlights using a white ball and coloured clothing.

The tournament’s advisory board includes former South African captain AB de Villiers, Australia’s Matthew Hayden and West Indies’ Clive Lloyd. Rajkumar Sharma, Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, will head the global selection committee.

The event will take place at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club, with the final scheduled for November 29.
