Web desk: Another HAL Tejas fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed in India during a routine training session, officials confirmed on Sunday. The pilot ejected safely and is in stable condition. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the aircraft’s safety record.

The single-seat Tejas went down while landing at a major air force base. It had completed a training sortie earlier this month. Defence sources confirmed the pilot did not sustain serious injuries.

This is the third major accident involving the indigenous Tejas programme. The aircraft suffered severe damage and will likely be written off. Defence officials have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

Previous accidents include a crash at the 2025 Dubai Airshow, where the pilot died during an aerobatic display. Another crash happened in 2024 near Jaisalmer during a training flight, where the crew ejected safely.

After the crash, the Indian Air Force began inspections of all Tejas jets in service. Engineers and investigators are reviewing flight data to identify any technical or maintenance issues.

The Tejas programme is a key part of India’s plan to modernise its airpower and reduce dependence on foreign aircraft. Despite setbacks, the light combat aircraft remains central to the Air Force’s future plans. Hundreds of advanced variants are on order.

The crash comes as India expands defence cooperation with global partners and invests in joint aircraft production. Analysts say ensuring the safety and reliability of indigenous fighters like the Tejas is critical as India builds its manufacturing base and modern fleet.

Investigations continue, and the Indian Air Force has not provided a timeline for releasing the findings.
