The Murree glass train project has entered a new stage. The consultant advising the plan has urged the Capital Development Authority to extend the proposed route. The suggestion links the line to Islamabad International Airport through Faizabad. Officials from Punjab, Nespak and the CDA discussed the idea in recent meetings. Momentum around the next phase continues to build.
The Punjab government is preparing to launch the service soon. The route begins at Lake View Park and the Bhara Kahu bypass. It ends in Murree. The feasibility study is complete. Under the current plan, the glass train will run on a 40-kilometre elevated track. It will start from the Bhara Kahu bypass and reach Pindi Point. The project aims to improve travel and boost tourism.
Last month, a delegation from Punjab arrived in Islamabad. Chief Minister’s Adviser Shahid Ashraf Tarar led the team. They met CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa and board members. Punjab officials proposed extending the Murree line toward Islamabad airport. Both sides agreed that Nespak would support CDA in completing the pre-feasibility stage. Sources say Nespak has now submitted its findings.
The consultant has recommended using the existing metro track between the airport and Faizabad. This track could support the elevated monorail. The plan also suggests building a 13-kilometre stretch from Faizabad to the Bhara Kahu bypass. This section would connect to the main station planned between Lake View Park and the bypass.
A future extension is also part of the vision. The route could run from Rawat to Faizabad along the Expressway. It would merge with the monorail at Faizabad. A CDA board member confirmed the progress. The authority is moving toward a full feasibility study based on Nespak’s assessment.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has pushed for fast action. She recently told Murree residents that the project would begin soon. The plan now appears to be advancing steadily.
