WEBDESK: Residents of Islamabad are set to face higher water and sewerage charges, as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to increase tariffs.
The CDA Board has approved a rise in water and sanitation charges. At present, households with ten-marla houses pay Rs280 per month, while five-marla houses pay Rs192 per month.
According to CDA, the authority earns only Rs40 lakh annually, while its yearly expenses reach Rs4 billion. To cover this gap, officials are preparing to increase charges. Bills will also be collected on a monthly basis in the future.
The last increase in water and sewerage tariffs took place in 2017–18. This time, CDA is planning to set the minimum monthly bill for five-marla houses at Rs500.
A public hearing on the proposed changes will take place on 3 September at the Convention Centre, Islamabad, from 10 am to 2 pm.
CDA’s Water Directorate has issued a public notice, inviting citizens to attend the hearing and share their views or suggestions.
