Web desk: Apple has confirmed that its latest software update, iOS 26, will be rolled out to users on September 15, alongside the launch of watchOS 26, macOS Tahoe, iPadOS 26, and VisionOS 26.
Fresh ‘liquid glass’ design for iOS 26
The highlight of iOS 26 is a completely new look called the “liquid glass” design. This brings in curved, polished menus, glass-clear transparency and pop-out navigators.
Although most early testers have praised the new clean and sleek composition, others have expressed complaints that the increased transparency and reduced contrast may lead to more difficult text to read.
New features in Apple’s iOS 26 update
In addition to the new design, Apple has included a variety of fresh tools.
These range from ‘Live Translation’, new lock screen options and custom snooze settings, to an updated Phone app layout.
Messaging has also been expanded with customised backgrounds and polls, while a new Apple Games experience is part of the upgrade.
Other improvements include visual intelligence features and several smaller refinements.
Devices compatible with iOS 26 and other updates
The rollout will cover a wide range of devices. iOS 26 is compatible with the iPhone 11 and later.
The watchOS 26 update supports Apple Watch Series 6, SE2, and Ultra models. macOS Tahoe will work on Apple Silicon Macs from 2020 onwards, and a limited number of 2019 Intel machines.
iPadOS 26 will support iPad Pro m4, iPad Pro 3rd gen or later, iPad Air m2 and m3, and iPad Air 3rd generation, older models also.
It will also operate on iPad A16, iPad 8th generation or later, iPad mini A17 Pro, iPad mini 5th generation or later devices.
VisionOS 26 is coming to the Apple Vision Pro headset.
The VisionOS 26 release is confirmed for the Vision Pro headset, bringing updated designs and better AR/VR functions.
How to download iOS 26 and other Apple updates
Apple has recommended that users update their devices by visiting the settings and updating to Software update under the general section.
There are, however, other choices that might not be available immediately, depending on the language or area.
Experts also caution that high traffic on release day may slow down downloads for some people.
