Internet users across Pakistan may face slower speeds and brief service disruptions on January 15, 2026, due to scheduled repair work on a major submarine internet cable.
Internet service provider Nayatel has informed its customers that the repairs will begin around 2:00 PM and may continue for up to eight hours. During this time, users across the country could notice slower internet performance.
In an email to customers, Nayatel said the work is needed to fix a fault in an international submarine cable that carries a large share of Pakistan’s global data traffic. The company did not share details about the fault but warned that browsing, streaming, and online work may be affected.
Submarine cables play a key role in connecting Pakistan to the global internet. Any issue with these cables can disrupt services for millions of users. During the repair period, data will be diverted to alternate routes, which are often slower and less reliable.
The announcement comes weeks after a major nationwide internet outage on January 1, 2026, which lasted more than two days. That outage exposed weaknesses in Pakistan’s internet infrastructure.
Nayatel and other service providers have advised users to plan important online tasks in advance. While the repairs aim to improve long term service quality, users should expect slower speeds during the maintenance window.
