An actors’ union has already made it clear that artificial characters cannot be used as a replacement for human actors.
A UK production company, Particle6, has announced that its AI-generated digital actress, Tilly Norwood, will play the lead role in her first feature film, Misaligned.
According to the company, the film will be set in a unique digital world where themes of identity, consciousness and artificial intelligence will be explored through a blend of comedy and drama.
Particle6 founder Elaine van der Velden said Tilly Norwood was developed through thousands of different stages, while the film’s production will also involve traditional filmmakers, including directors, writers, editors and AI experts.
According to her, the aim is to demonstrate that in high-quality filmmaking, AI can only play an effective role when combined with human expertise.
Meanwhile, the project has sparked a fresh debate within the film industry.
An actors’ union has already stated that human beings should remain at the center of the creative arts and that artificial characters cannot be used as a substitute for human actors.
The use of AI has also been a key issue in past Hollywood labor negotiations, where rules governing artificial intelligence formed an important part of the discussions.
