NDMA flood advisory for Pakistan August 29 to September 2

⏱ 2 minute read
NDMA

NDMA, citing PMD, warned on Aug 27 that strong monsoon currents and a westerly wave will trigger rain-wind/thundershowers across upper and central Pakistan between August 29 to September 2.

Flood advisory issued by NDMA

Monsoon flows from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to enter from Aug 29, with a westerly system approaching on Aug 30.

The spell will include breaks but may be intense at times.

Risks, cities, and NDMA flood advisory

Heavy to very heavy rain may cause flooding in major rivers and flash floods in local nullahs.

Which includes Murree and Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, D.G. Khan hill torrents, and northeast Punjab.

Urban flooding is possible in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Nowshera.

Similarly, landslides/rockfalls are also likely in hilly terrain.

Therefore, public is advised to keep at least 20 feet from rivers and nullahs, avoid walking or driving through floodwater.

As per the advisory even 6 inches can knock you off your feet thus select higher-ground accommodation in monsoon zones.

In addition, tourists should check official updates before travel.

Authorities have been told to staff Emergency Operation Centres round-the-clock.

Additionally, NDMA flood advisory says keep Rescue 1122, fire and ambulance services on alert, issue community warnings in low-lying areas, and regulate tourist traffic.

Moreover, for live forecasts and alerts, NDMA/PMD direct users to the PMD website and mobile apps, and the NDMA Disaster Alert app.
