Independence Day events in Islamabad Postponed in solidarity with KP, AJK flood victims

WEBDESK: Islamabad’s Independence Day events have been postponed due to the devastating floods and heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that the two-day programme, themed “Maraka-e-Haq and Independence Day Celebrations”, which was scheduled for 16 and 17 August at F-9 Park, will no longer take place.

The decision was made on the directives of Information Minister Attaullah Tarar to show solidarity with flood victims and to focus on relief efforts.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur declared a day of mourning across the province. The national flag will remain at half-mast.

The Chief Minister also confirmed that a provincial government helicopter carrying relief goods crashed in Bajaur due to bad weather and fog. Five people on board lost their lives. The helicopter had been returning from relief operations in Salarzai, Bajaur, when it crashed in Mohmand district.
