Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz announced the arrival of 100 new electric buses, set to depart from Yantai Port, China.

CM Maryam took to her X (formerly Twitter), saying that these eco-friendly buses will serve previously underserved districts of Punjab, including Mianwali, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Pakpattan, and Dera Ghazi Khan, which have long lacked a formal public transportation system.

She stated that the fare for these buses will be an affordable Rs. 20, making public transport accessible to a wider population.

The modern fleet will feature air-conditioned interiors, WiFi connectivity, and a fully automated ticketing system. The buses will also be equipped to accommodate people with disabilities, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and secure travel experience for all citizens of Punjab.

In a separate development, earlier Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif announced that 100,000 free laptops will be distributed to talented students across Pakistan based solely on merit.

As per details, the announcement was made during an event in Islamabad to commemorate International Youth Day.

The initiative will cover students in all four provinces, the federal capital Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, with the distribution process designed to be transparent and free from nepotism.

The Prime Minister stated that this program is separate from an existing laptop scheme that provides devices through interest-based loans.
