Web Desk: Pakistan has reiterated that there has been no change in its policy toward Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities, describing the regime as illegitimate, non-inclusive and unrepresentative.
According to the statement, Pakistan’s position on the Taliban remains unchanged despite recent discussion over its engagement with Afghan representatives.
Pakistan maintains that the Taliban authorities came to power through the use of force and do not represent an inclusive political system. It also rejects any suggestion that its Afghan policy has undergone a shift.
At the same time, Pakistan has accused the Afghan authorities of allowing Afghanistan to become a center for militant activity and of posing a security challenge to neighboring countries.
The statement says Pakistan remains concerned about what it describes as the export of terrorism from Afghan territory to neighboring states.
These allegations come amid longstanding tensions between Islamabad and Kabul over security, border issues and militant activity. Pakistan has repeatedly called on the Afghan authorities to prevent their territory from being used against other countries.
The latest statement seeks to make clear that engagement with Afghan representatives should not be interpreted as recognition of a change in Pakistan’s broader Afghanistan policy.
Pakistan’s position, according to the statement, remains that the Taliban administration is neither inclusive nor representative and that security concerns will continue to shape Islamabad’s approach toward Kabul.
The comments also underline the distinction between diplomatic or academic engagement with Afghan representatives and any formal change in Pakistan’s policy toward the Taliban authorities.
