WhatsApp has announced the introduction of new security features and updates to make users’ accounts more secure. These include improving account security and making the login process safer.
According to a private TV channel, WhatsApp’s two-step verification already provides additional protection for accounts through a six-digit secret code. Under this system, even if an attacker obtains the user’s temporary verification code, an additional security step is still required to gain access to the account.
However, users currently do not have the option of replacing the six-digit security code with a stronger password consisting of letters, numbers, and special characters.
Passkeys will also play an important role in the new security features. This method reduces users’ reliance on the traditional combination of usernames and passwords, which can be stolen through scams and phishing.
Logging in through passkeys will make it considerably more difficult for another person to gain remote access to a user’s account.
Android users will now also receive more information when they receive a call from someone who is not in their contacts. For example, users may be able to determine whether the caller’s number is from another country.
In addition, both iPhone and Android users will be able to use a stronger security system through passkeys to protect their accounts against fraud.
These changes being introduced by WhatsApp may help protect users’ accounts from unauthorized access, impersonation, and other online threats.
