England’s star batter Jos Buttler has reached a major milestone in T20 cricket history, overtaking former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard.
Buttler achieved the feat during a match in The Hundred tournament, where he scored a brilliant 51 runs with the help of six sixes, leading Manchester Super Giants to a much-needed victory after three consecutive defeats.
Buttler surpassed Pollard’s record of 14,803 T20 runs with his first six off Marco Jansen.
Buttler now tops the list with 14,833 runs in 492 innings, while Pollard has moved to second with 14,803 runs in 663 innings.
West Indies’ Chris Gayle, famously known as the “Universe Boss,” is third with 14,562 runs in 455 innings. However, he has now retired from all forms of cricket.
Meanwhile, Kieron Pollard will represent Trinbago Knight Riders in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League, where he will have an opportunity to reclaim the top spot.
It is worth noting that statistics from The Hundred matches are also counted as part of T20 records, which is why this achievement has been included in Buttler’s overall T20 career statistics.
Speaking after the match, Buttler said that becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket was a proud moment for him.
