Babar Azam sets new record

Pakistan’s current Test captain Babar Azam has equalled a historic record held by former captain Imran Khan in international cricket.

Pakistan defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test yesterday, drawing the two-match series 1-1.

In the two-Test series against the West Indies, Babar Azam scored 193 runs in four innings at an average of 96.50, finishing as the series’ leading run-scorer.

Babar scored 23 runs in the first innings of the first Test and followed it with a responsible half-century in the second innings. In the first innings of the second Test, he scored 88 runs, while in the final innings of the series, he remained unbeaten on 24 off 30 balls.

Babar Scores 193 Runs in Four Innings, Named Player of the Series

At the conclusion of the Test series, Babar Azam was jointly named Player of the Series alongside West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves.

With this, Babar Azam has equalled the historic record for the most Player of the Series awards won by a Pakistani player in international cricket.
This was the first Player of the Series award of Babar’s Test career, taking his overall tally to 10.

Previously, he had won the honour five times in T20 internationals and four times in ODIs.

Babar Azam has therefore joined Imran Khan and Wasim Akram as the Pakistani players with the most Player of the Series awards in international cricket, with 10 each. Waqar Younis is fourth on the list with nine awards.
