Web Desk: Sannia Ashfaq, the former wife of Pakistan cricketer Imad Wasim, has publicly detailed allegations of emotional abuse, coercion and abandonment during their marriage, saying she is now raising their three children as a single mother in the United Kingdom.
In a lengthy video statement shared on social media, Ashfaq recounted the progression of her relationship with the former Pakistan all-rounder, describing how their marriage deteriorated amid family disputes before ending in divorce.
Imad Wasim has not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
Ashfaq said she first met Wasim through an online platform and described the early stages of their relationship as loving and supportive.
According to her account, the couple later married, prompting her to relocate from the United Kingdom to Pakistan, leaving behind her family and social circle to build a new life with him.
The tensions emerged after marriage, claiming that Wasim’s behavior changed significantly whenever members of his family became involved in their personal affairs.
Ashfaq said disagreements initially centered on relatively minor issues but gradually intensified, particularly during her pregnancies.
Ashfaq alleged that conflict escalated after she became pregnant with her second child.
She said she wanted to delay informing her mother-in-law about the pregnancy because she feared a repeat of an earlier experience in which she claims she had been pressured into terminating a pregnancy.
According to Ashfaq, revealing the pregnancy led to severe disagreements within the family. She alleged that relatives encouraged Wasim to end the marriage and accused them of removing household belongings following the breakdown of their relationship.
She further alleged that one of Wasim’s relatives threatened her while she was pregnant, claiming she feared for her safety during that period.
Ashfaq said Wasim later proposed relocating to the United Kingdom in an effort to rebuild their relationship away from family tensions.
However, she alleged that shortly after arriving in Britain, he informed her through legal representatives that he intended to end the marriage.
According to Ashfaq, she was left at her mother’s home while legal proceedings continued. She claimed she received regular correspondence from Wasim’s lawyers and said she repeatedly attempted to reconcile for the sake of their children.
She further alleged that Wasim threatened to seek custody of the children and later ended the marriage before marrying another woman.
Among the most serious claims in her statement, Ashfaq alleged that she was pressured into undergoing an abortion during an earlier pregnancy.
She said a medical appointment had already been arranged and claimed she expressed her wish to continue the pregnancy. According to her account, the procedure nevertheless went ahead after she was administered medication.
Ashfaq described the experience as one of the most painful moments of her life and said it remains something she has been unable to forgive.
Ashfaq said she now lives in the United Kingdom with the couple’s three children and is raising them independently.
She said her primary focus is providing them with stability and opportunities for the future despite the difficulties she says she faced following the breakdown of the marriage.
The allegations made by Ashfaq have attracted significant attention on social media.
Reuters could not independently verify the claims contained in her statement, and Imad Wasim has not publicly commented on the allegations as of publication. The allegations remain unproven.
