Afghanistan’s armed resistance group, the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), has claimed that at least 21 Taliban fighters, including several commanders, were killed and 37 others wounded during clashes in the Zebak district of Badakhshan province.
According to the AFF, the operation targeted multiple Taliban checkpoints and military positions in the district, inflicting heavy casualties and damaging several key military installations.
The claim was also reported by Afghanistan International English, citing the AFF, which described the fighting as a major confrontation that resulted in significant Taliban losses. However, the Taliban administration has not yet issued any official statement regarding the incident or the reported casualties.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front is one of the armed groups that has been fighting the Taliban since they returned to power in 2021. The group has primarily operated in northern and northeastern Afghanistan, with Badakhshan, Panjshir, Takhar, and Baghlan among the provinces where clashes between Taliban forces and resistance groups have frequently been reported.
If verified, the reported operation could rank among the most significant attacks against the Taliban in recent months. However, the claims have not been independently verified.
