OGRA has once again increased petroleum product prices and issued a fresh notification. The price of petrol has been raised by Rs 6.39 per litre, taking the new price to Rs327.12 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs7.83 per litre, bringing its new price to Rs375.4 per litre.
Following the latest increase, citizens have expressed concern that higher fuel prices will not only raise transportation costs but could also lead to an increase in the prices of essential commodities.
According to govt’s new plan fuel rates are now changed/updated daily and the decision has been approved by the prime minister and the federal cabinet. Minister for petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has said that the move is part of the government’s plan to deregulate the petroleum sector and ensure that changes in global oil prices are passed directly to consumers.
In response to govt’s decision Pakistan Petrol Pumps Dealers Association has expressed grave concerns and held several meetings with Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz but the minister has been unable to convince them to accept the proposed daily fuel pricing system.
According to media reports, after meeting with the Petroleum Minister, a delegation of the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) also held talks with the Chairman of OGRA and the Petroleum Secretary.
The meeting between the PPDA delegation and the OGRA chairman lasted approximately two and a half hours, during which the dealers voiced their reservations about the proposed daily pricing mechanism.
It is worth noting that Petrol Pumps Dealers Association had announced countrywide strike from 23rd of July but they postponed it due to assurance from govt to consider their demands.
