After a long period of scorching heat and high humidity, heavy monsoon rain swept the capital on Monday, bringing relief to residents and marking the start of a fresh spell of wet weather in the federal capital. Dark clouds covered the city before torrential showers began.
The rainfall changed the city’s atmosphere within a matter of a few minutes, replacing the sweltering conditions with cool breezes and overcast skies. Many residents welcomed the pleasant weather, while parks and public spaces saw swarming crowds, stepping out to enjoy the rain after enduring several days of extreme heat.
However, the heavy showers also disturbed normal life in parts of the capital. Water accumulated on several roads and in low-lying areas, disrupting the smooth traffic during peak hours and causing difficulties for commuters.
The city traffic police urged Motorists to drive carefully due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Meteorological Department stated that the current spell is part of the ongoing monsoon system which is to stay till 10th of May in different regions of the country.
PDMA has issued alerts of urban flooding in Northern areas, advising the public to remain cautious, particularly in areas vulnerable to urban flooding. Tourists have also been advised to avoid trips to Northern areas during the monsoon spells.
Furthermore, Rescue 1122 and all disaster management wings across the country remain alert in order to immediately respond to any unforeseen emergencies and calamities.
