Civil society rallies in Mirpur and Leepa valley, condemn banned JAAC

⏱ 2 minute read

Web Desk: Civil society groups organised protest rallies in Mirpur district and Leepa Valley on Sunday, where participants criticised the banned Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and called for maintaining public order through constitutional and legal means.

Demonstrators marched through the two areas carrying banners and chanting slogans against the committee. Organisers said the rallies aimed to reject what they described as the group’s activities and to express support for peace and stability in the region.

During the demonstrations, speakers urged residents not to support the committee and appealed for disputes to be resolved through lawful and constitutional mechanisms.

Organisers said citizens should reject violence and avoid actions that could disrupt public life. They also called on the public to boycott the committee, arguing that political and social grievances should be addressed within the framework of the law.

Participants also chanted slogans in support of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army during the rallies. Organisers said the gatherings reflected public backing for national unity and regional stability.

Meanwhile, speakers alleged that the committee’s agenda could undermine peace and security. Reuters could not independently verify those claims, and the JAAC did not immediately respond to the allegations.

The rallies come amid heightened political tensions across Azad Jammu and Kashmir following recent demonstrations linked to the JAAC. The movement has staged protests over a range of political and governance issues, while authorities have increased security measures in several districts after clashes between protesters and law enforcement.

The latest demonstrations underscore the increasingly polarised political atmosphere in the region as competing groups continue to hold public rallies to advance opposing views.
