Pakistan has achieved another historic milestone in advanced medical science by successfully performing CAR T-cell therapy for the first time, demonstrating its growing capabilities in cutting-edge medical treatment.
The Armed Forces Bone Marrow Transplant Centre successfully completed Pakistan’s first CAR T-cell therapy, highlighting the country’s ability to provide advanced treatment for some of the most challenging diseases.
Following the innovative treatment, a 21-year-old patient made a full recovery. Experts from the Army Medical Corps successfully carried out Pakistan’s first CAR T-cell therapy after years of research and development.
The patient and their family showed remarkable determination throughout the treatment. With this achievement, Pakistan joins the ranks of countries capable of delivering advanced cancer therapies, marking a significant step forward for the nation’s healthcare sector and boosting confidence in its medical expertise.
CAR T-cell therapy is one of the world’s most novel forms of cancer treatment. It carried out by collecting a patient’s own immune cells (T cells), genetically modifying them in a laboratory to recognize and attack cancer cells, and then transferring them back into the patient’s body. The therapy has shown remarkable results against certain blood cancers, specifically in patients who have not responded to conventional treatments such as chemotherapy or stem cell transplantation.
