PMD Issues alert for rain, thunderstorms in several parts of the country

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert forecasting strong winds and thunderstorms with rain at isolated places in Azad Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Punjab. The department has also warned that windstorms, squalls, and lightning could damage vulnerable structures.

According to the PMD Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to experience hot weather during the day today and tomorrow, with strong winds and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening.

The alert said that most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain hot and humid. However, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Chitral, Battagram, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kurram, and Orakzai are likely to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms after noon.

Similarly, most districts of Punjab are expected to remain hot and humid, while Murree, Galiyat, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, and Narowal may experience strong winds and thunderstorms with rain during the afternoon.

According to the PMD, most districts of Sindh are expected to remain extremely hot and humid, while coastal areas will see partly cloudy skies.

Most districts of Balochistan are also likely to remain intensely hot. However, Khuzdar and surrounding areas may receive rain with strong winds and thunderstorms during the evening and night.

In Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, partly cloudy weather is expected, with rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms at isolated places.

The PMD added that during the past 24 hours, rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms was recorded in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Balochistan. The highest rainfall was recorded in Malam Jabba (16 mm) and Parachinar (14 mm) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
