Web Desk: Governments and international organisations around the world have welcomed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, highlighting Pakistan’s key mediation role in easing tensions.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed support for the truce, urging all parties to comply with international law and work toward lasting peace in the Middle East. “The Secretary-General welcomes the announcement of a two-week ceasefire by the United States and Iran,” his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said. He emphasised that adherence to the ceasefire could pave the way for a durable and comprehensive settlement in the region.
Germany, through Chancellor Friedrich Merz, also recognised Pakistan’s contribution, noting that diplomatic channels must now be used to negotiate a long-term resolution. India’s Ministry of External Affairs echoed similar sentiments, calling for de-escalation, dialogue and unrestricted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to restore global trade flows.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Pakistan and Shehbaz Sharif for their “tireless and courageous diplomacy,” while affirming Malaysia’s readiness to support peace efforts. The United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, described Pakistan’s involvement as “quiet and effective,” and New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters thanked Pakistan, Turkiye, and Egypt for their mediation.
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted that the truce was made possible through the combined efforts of Prime Minister Sharif, Syed Asim Munir, US President Donald Trump, and Iranian leadership, expressing hope that the ceasefire would boost global trade and economic stability.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the ceasefire a positive step toward de-escalation, criticising earlier threats of targeting Iran’s civilian infrastructure as inappropriate. He welcomed the move as an opportunity to resolve the conflict peacefully.
Across the globe, leaders and diplomats praised Pakistan’s mediation for saving lives and stabilising economies, cementing Islamabad’s reputation as a key diplomatic actor in resolving international crises.
