Police are hunting for suspects who shot and killed the 18-year-old nephew of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui during a violent carjacking in Alton, Texas, authorities confirmed Sunday.
The victim, identified as Emad Siddiqui, died after unidentified assailants opened fire during the robbery. Investigators report that the attackers fled the scene in a Chrysler vehicle immediately after the shooting.
The Pasadena Police Department has mobilized units to track down the gunmen. Officials stated that investigators successfully identified the suspects using nearby CCTV surveillance footage. Consequently, law enforcement teams are currently conducting raids at multiple locations to take the individuals into custody.
This tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Pakistani-American community, as Emad was the nephew of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, the Pakistani neuroscientist currently serving an 86-year sentence in a U.S. federal prison on terrorism-related charges.
Meanwhile, community leaders have organized funeral services for the teenager. His funeral prayer is scheduled to take place today after Dhuhr prayers at Masjid Sabireen, where a large turnout of mourners is expected.
Furthermore, the incident has sparked intense reactions across social media platforms, with many users demanding swift justice for the family. While police continue their search, they urge anyone with additional information regarding the Chrysler or the suspects’ whereabouts to contact local authorities immediately.
