Beijing: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held an important meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing. Following the meeting, Pakistan and China issued a five-point joint statement aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East. Both countries demanded an immediate ceasefire to resolve ongoing conflicts.
According to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, the statement called for allowing humanitarian aid to reach conflict-affected areas and urged prompt negotiations to reduce tensions.
In related developments, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Maulana Fazlur Rehman met to discuss regional developments, emphasizing the need to keep Parliament informed before making any decisions.
The statement also stressed:
Ensuring the sovereignty and security of Iran and Gulf countries.
Avoiding use of force or threats.
Protecting civilian and non-military targets during the conflict.
Halting attacks on electricity infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities.
Securing the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for energy and goods, and ensuring the safety of ships and their crews stranded there.
Restoring safe passage for commercial vessels to resume maritime trade.
Finally, Pakistan and China called for strengthening the role of the United Nations, supporting international laws and peace agreements under the UN Charter.
