Web Desk: Lahore Qalandars fined captain Shaheen Shah Afridi 1 million rupees ($3,600) on Monday following a security breach at the team’s hotel during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) tournament.

The disciplinary action follows reports that the star fast bowler and teammate Sikandar Raza bypassed security staff to escort unauthorized visitors into their private quarters. Punjab Police officials formally complained to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the PSL Chief, alleging that the players used force to bring the individuals to their hotel floor on Saturday night.

According to the police letter, the Qalandars’ liaison officer and team owner Sameen Rana had both requested permission for the guests to visit. Despite security officials denying these requests on safety grounds, Afridi and Raza reportedly disregarded the directives and led four visitors past on-duty personnel.

The franchise confirmed the penalty after conducting an internal inquiry into the incident. While the team described the event as a “misunderstanding” rather than a deliberate violation, officials emphasized that the fine serves to maintain strict accountability and discipline within the squad.

Sikandar Raza addressed the controversy late Sunday, stating that the visitors were family members and friends. He clarified that while he was accustomed to meeting relatives at hotels in previous seasons, he was unaware of the more stringent protocols implemented for the 2026 edition.

This security lapse coincides with a turbulent week for the defending champions. On Sunday, the franchise also received a five-run penalty during their match against Karachi Kings for allegedly altering the condition of the ball, while batter Fakhar Zaman faced separate disciplinary charges.

Punjab Police have urged tournament organizers to implement even stricter measures to prevent future unauthorized access to player areas, citing the high-profile nature of the event and the need to ensure the safety of all international and local participants.
