Web Desk: President Asif Ali Zardari chaired a high-level meeting to assess the country’s economic outlook, energy situation and regional security dynamics, officials said.

The meeting brought together all four provincial chief ministers, federal ministers, the finance minister and senior officials, while the foreign minister briefed participants on global diplomatic developments.

During the session, officials focused on curbing inflation and ensuring the timely availability of essential goods. They called for a coordinated national strategy to stabilize the economy and reduce mounting financial pressure on the public.

Moreover, participants emphasised that aligning federal and provincial policies would be key to sustaining economic recovery.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif rejected proposals to raise fuel prices, prioritizing public relief amid ongoing economic strain.

Officials said the decision reflects the government’s intent to shield consumers from additional financial burden while exploring alternative measures to manage fiscal challenges.

In addition, the meeting included a detailed briefing on electricity and fuel availability, as well as conservation strategies. Participants reviewed proposals such as remote work and online classes to reduce energy consumption.

The government also decided to immediately suspend the use of 60 percent of official vehicles, aiming to cut fuel usage and reduce public expenditure.

Furthermore, officials conducted a comprehensive review of the regional environment and internal security landscape. They discussed strategies to address emerging threats and strengthen preparedness.

Participants stressed that close coordination between federal and provincial governments remains essential to ensuring public relief, economic stability and national security.
