Web Desk: Local municipal authorities initiated emergency de-watering operations across Gwadar district on Friday after a steady spell of rain caused water accumulation in several low-lying areas. Consequently, teams from the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) and the local municipal committee (Baldia) deployed machinery to clear major roadways and residential streets.

The district recorded varying levels of precipitation over the last 24 hours, with Gwadar city receiving the highest amount at 17.1 mm. Meanwhile, Pasni and Jiwani recorded 12.2 mm and 10.5 mm respectively. Other coastal areas, including Ormara, Lasbella, and Uthal, reported minimal rainfall ranging between 0.1 mm and 0.4 mm.

Specifically, officials reported water accumulation of approximately six to eight inches in Gwadar City’s Jannat Bazar, Mir Lal Baksh Ward, and the vicinity of Bilal Mosque. Although water gathered significantly on the roads, authorities confirmed that it has not significantly impacted houses or shops in the city center so far. Furthermore, the district administration reported no damage to critical infrastructure.

However, the situation remains more challenging in the nearby area of Surbandar. In that locality, rainwater entered a small number of private residences. Therefore, the GDA plans to shift de-watering equipment to Surbandar immediately after completing the primary clearance operations in Gwadar City.

As the weather clears, local teams continue to monitor drainage systems to prevent further flooding. Nevertheless, the administration remains on alert to handle any additional rainfall expected in the coastal belt.
