In the suicide attack that took place in Bannu, the brave son of the nation, Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz, embraced martyrdom. This tragic incident of terrorism plunged the entire nation into mourning. At the same time, the Quranic verses he had shared on his WhatsApp status the previous night and at Sehri (pre-dawn meal) strengthened the faith of many who read them.
According to sources, between Friday and Saturday night and again at Sehri on Saturday morning, Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz had shared the last two verses of the final section of Surah Al-Baqarah along with a few supplications (masnoon duas) on his WhatsApp status. These verses carry a comprehensive message of faith, patience, obedience, and turning towards Allah.
The words written in his status — “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return” — moved every reader to tears. According to family members and fellow officers, Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz was a deeply religious, soft-spoken, and dutiful individual. He often advised his subordinate soldiers to observe prayer, practice patience, and maintain complete trust in Allah.
Faith-Inspiring Translation of the Verses
“The Messenger and the believers have believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord. All believe in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers. They say: We hear and we obey. Our Lord, we seek Your forgiveness, and to You is the final return.”
The verses further state:
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. A person will receive the reward of the good he does and bear the consequences of the evil he commits. The servant prays to his Lord: Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake. Do not place upon us a burden like that which You placed upon those before us. Forgive us, pardon us, and have mercy upon us. You are our Protector.”
