Ammad Butt ban sparks boycott, players reluctant for World Cup qualifying round

Following the ban imposed on Pakistan hockey team captain Ammad Butt, players have begun considering a boycott.

Sources say the players’ stance is clear: they do not accept the ban on their captain. Several players have indicated that they will not travel to Egypt for the World Cup qualifying tournament without Ammad Butt.

The World Cup qualifying round is scheduled to begin on March 1 in Egypt.

It is worth noting that Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Tariq Bugti imposed a two-year ban on Imad Butt and subsequently resigned from his position.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Tariq Bugti stated that he had sent his resignation to the Prime Minister and confirmed that Imad Butt would not be allowed to play domestic or international hockey during the two-year suspension.

Bugti further explained that the Hockey Federation received funds just four days before the team’s departure to Australia. However, upon arrival in Australia, the hotel booking had been canceled due to increased charges.

He also remarked that sports federations in the country often face injustices and suggested that a proper hockey board structure appears to be emerging.
