Web Desk: A district and sessions court in Islamabad has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in a case involving alleged misleading statements against state institutions, court officials said.
The court directed authorities to arrest the accused and produce him immediately before the bench, signaling a tougher legal stance over repeated non-appearance.
The warrants were issued by Senior Civil Judge Abbas Shah during a hearing of the case after Afridi failed to appear before the court. The judge took notice of his continued absence and ruled that the proceedings could not be delayed further.
In its order, the court stated that the law applies equally to all individuals and that no accused can be allowed to evade judicial process. As a result, it ordered law enforcement agencies to ensure Afridi’s arrest and appearance.
According to a private television channel, the case was registered over what prosecutors described as baseless and misleading allegations leveled against state institutions. The prosecution argued that such statements harmed the credibility and reputation of the institutions and warranted legal action.
During the hearing, the court stressed that strict adherence to the law in such cases is essential to uphold public trust and maintain the integrity of state institutions.
Following the court’s decision, legal experts said the issuance of non-bailable warrants reflects the seriousness with which the judiciary is treating the case. They warned that failure to comply with court orders in the future could expose the accused to even stricter legal consequences.
Further proceedings in the case are expected once the accused is produced before the court.
