Web Desk: Security forces responded to what they described as a fresh provocation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border after armed fighters opened fire from across the frontier in southwestern Balochistan, security sources said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the Qila Saifullah sector, where fighters linked to Tehrik Taliban Afghanistan (TTA) allegedly fired from the Kanyan area toward a Pakistani military position known as Faisal Post, the sources said.

According to security officials, Pakistani forces returned fire after coming under attack. They said the response followed standard operational protocols and aimed to neutralize the threat while preventing escalation along the sensitive border region

The officials said Pakistani troops targeted multiple militant positions during the exchange. They added that the response focused on accuracy and battlefield control.

Security sources said seven militant posts were engaged during the operation. They reported the use of mortars, surveillance drones and armored assets, including tanks, to suppress the firing positions.

The operation forced militant fighters to abandon several posts, the sources said, adding that casualties were inflicted among the attackers. No independent confirmation of the claims was immediately available.

Pakistani officials said the situation later stabilised and that forces remained on alert to deter further provocations. They did not report any casualties on the Pakistani side.

The incident comes amid periodic tensions along the porous Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where Islamabad has repeatedly accused militant groups of using Afghan territory to stage attacks. Kabul has denied allowing its soil to be used against neighboring countries.

Such flare-ups highlight the fragile security environment along the frontier and the ongoing challenge of managing cross-border militancy despite diplomatic engagement between the two neighbors.
