Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Kheeal Das Kohistani, on Thursday praised Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for restoring peace and implementing development projects in Karachi. Speaking at an event in Hyderabad held to commemorate Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Nawaz Sharif, and Christmas, Kohistani said the work done in Sindh under Nawaz Sharif cannot be ignored.

He recalled that Karachi once faced severe lawlessness and targeted killings, which restricted citizens’ freedom. “Nawaz Sharif brought peace to Karachi and carried out significant development works,” he said, dismissing claims that the former prime minister had not contributed to Sindh’s progress.

Kohistani also highlighted Nawaz Sharif’s role in advancing Pakistan’s nuclear program, which had been initiated by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. He praised Nawaz Sharif for responding to India’s 1998 nuclear tests, saying Pakistan’s nuclear capability allowed the country to face its enemy confidently.

Speaking about religious freedom, Kohistani said Pakistan is a peaceful country where minorities freely celebrate festivals, including Holi and Christmas, in accordance with the constitution.

He concluded by promising to develop Karachi into a modern city comparable to Lahore.
