Web Desk: Pakistan has reasserted its strategic importance and credibility in West Asia, marking a significant diplomatic success, according to a recent report by Indian newspaper The Hindu. The report highlights growing international recognition of Pakistan’s foreign policy achievements under strong military leadership.

Rising diplomatic stature

The Hindu credited Pakistan’s recent diplomatic successes to bold policymaking and effective military leadership. Citing late U.S. scholar Stephen P. Cohen, the report noted that Pakistan often achieves political gains globally because it does not shy away from taking high risks to secure its position. These traits, it said, are evident in Pakistan’s improved relations with the United States and West Asian countries.

Key leadership role

The report emphasised the pivotal role of Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in shaping Pakistan’s foreign policy. Under his leadership, Pakistan has achieved unexpected diplomatic milestones, including former U.S. President Donald Trump referring to Munir as “my favourite field marshal,” Pakistan nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize and taking a clear stance in support of the Palestinian people in the Gulf.

Strategic agreements and regional influence

The Hindu highlighted the September 2025 Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as a major diplomatic victory. The report noted that Pakistan has become increasingly significant for Gulf countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, due to its military strength and potential human resources, which can contribute to regional stability and global missions.

Balancing military and civilian roles

The report further observed that Pakistan’s current foreign policy combines strong military leadership, a low-profile approach by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and careful diplomacy in international engagements. This approach, according to The Hindu, has enhanced Pakistan’s global reputation and strengthened confidence in West Asia.

In conclusion, the Indian media’s acknowledgement underscores Pakistan’s rising diplomatic clout and the central role of its military leadership in securing strategic gains abroad.
