Australia seal ashes with Adelaide test victory over England

ADELAIDE: Australia defeated England in third test match, clinched victory in Ashes series at Adelaide Oval on Sunday (Today).

Set an improbable target of 435 on the final day, England showed resistance but were eventually dismissed for 352 late in the afternoon session. Mitchell Starc led the charge with three wickets, while Scott Boland claimed the final scalp to end England’s hopes and confirm Australia’s dominance.

England began day five needing 228 runs and briefly threatened to stretch the contest through patient partnerships, particularly involving Jamie Smith and Will Jacks. However, Australia’s discipline with the new ball and sharp catching in the slips ensured the pressure never eased. Starc returned at key moments, removing Smith and later Jacks, whose dismissal effectively ended the chase.

The result once again underlined Australia’s mastery at home, with England now losing 16 of their last 18 Tests in the country. Despite pre-series confidence and bold statements from England about playing an aggressive brand of cricket, they abandoned their attacking approach in Adelaide and still fell well short.

Australia’s batting foundations proved decisive. Travis Head continued his remarkable run at Adelaide Oval with another commanding century, while wicketkeeper Alex Carey starred with a century in the first innings and a valuable half-century in the second to earn Man of the Match honours.

With two Tests remaining, Australia have already secured the Ashes, while England are left reflecting on another disappointing tour down under and searching for positives in a series that promised much but delivered little.
