Karachi: Easypaisa Digital Bank celebrated the first anniversary of its digital banking operations by announcing a major expansion that will allow its users to make cross-border payments in over 100 currencies and receive remittances directly into their Easypaisa accounts from more than 100 countries.

Stakeholders gather to mark milestone

The milestone was celebrated with a dinner hosted for stakeholders at a local hotel, attended by federal ministers, policymakers, regulators, business leaders, and media representatives. The event was hosted by Easypaisa Digital Bank Chairman Irfan Wahab Khan, ANT International President Douglas Feagin, and Easypaisa CEO Jahanzeb Khan.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, congratulated Easypaisa on completing a year as a digital bank. She said the government’s top priority, as directed by the Prime Minister, is to promote a digital economy through coordinated and robust measures, emphasizing that digital banking plays a key role in financial inclusion and formalizing the economy.

Promoting cashless economy and financial inclusion

State Minister for Finance Bilal Azhar Kiani highlighted the importance of involving digital finance experts for effective policymaking. He added that demonstrating the practical benefits of a cashless economy to the public is critical for increasing transparency and strengthening the economy.

Easypaisa data shows over 3.8 billion digital transactions worth more than PKR 15 trillion were conducted through the platform in 2025. The bank said digital transactions now account for an estimated 11 percent of Pakistan’s GDP, with one in five Pakistanis currently an Easypaisa user.

Women and low-income groups lead inclusion push

Women represent 31 percent of Easypaisa users, reflecting the bank’s growing role in advancing digital inclusion and financial empowerment for women. The bank emphasized that integrating women and low-income groups into the digital financial system remains a top priority.

Global expansion with ANT International

During the event, Easypaisa formally announced its partnership with ANT International’s WorldFirst platform. This collaboration enables Easypaisa users to send international payments in more than 100 currencies and receive remittances from over 100 countries directly into their accounts.

The new facility is expected to benefit freelancers, exporters, and overseas Pakistanis by providing fast, secure, and convenient financial services. The bank said this step will not only boost remittances but also strengthen the digital economy and promote transparency in the financial system.
