Web Desk: Pakistan’s cricket stars Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi have touched down in Australia as the 15th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) gears up to start on December 14. Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers confirmed their arrivals on social media and welcomed the high-profile overseas signings.

Shaheen Arrives First as Top Draft Pick

Shaheen Shah Afridi, selected as the No. 1 draft pick, was the first to arrive, landing in Brisbane in the early hours of Tuesday. Meanwhile, Brisbane Heat shared images of the left-arm pacer at the airport, captioning them: “The number one draft pick has landed. Welcome to Brisbane, Shaheen Shah Afridi.” His early arrival underscores the franchise’s plan to build its bowling strategy around Pakistan’s pace spearhead.

Babar Joins Sydney Sixers

Later in the day, Babar Azam arrived in Sydney, with the Sixers posting a short video of the star batter walking into the dressing room, captioned simply: “He’s arrived.” Known for his classical batting and ability to control tempo, Babar provides a contrast to the league’s emphasis on power-hitting and pace, giving his team stability at the top of the order.

Pakistani Contingent Prepares for BBL 15

BBL 15 will run from December 14, 2025, to January 25, 2026, featuring 44 matches, most of them scheduled in prime-time evening slots. Meanwhile, pre-season camps are already underway, and Pakistani players are quickly adjusting to Australian conditions.

In addition to Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, other Pakistan internationals set to feature in the tournament include Mohammad Rizwan and Hassan Khan with Melbourne Renegades, Haris Rauf with Melbourne Stars, Shadab Khan with Sydney Thunder and Hasan Ali representing Adelaide Strikers.

Tournament Format and Player Availability

The BBL has confirmed that the finals will follow the traditional four-match format, with the Qualifier scheduled for January 20 and the final on January 25. All participating Pakistani players have received No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Pakistan Cricket Board, ensuring their availability for national duties during the league.

As Babar and Shaheen arrive, anticipation for Big Bash League 15 has intensified, therefore giving Australian fans and cricket enthusiasts plenty to look forward to as the tournament gets underway.
