Cape Town: Jacques Kallis, the South African legend, states that the T20 World Cup comes at the perfect time for Proteas. He believes that the South African side have a strong chance of finally winning their first title.

The tournament will begin next year on 7 February. This is only after a few days after the conclusion of South Africa’s flagship domestic T20 league SA20.

The SA20 will serve as the ideal training ground for the World Cup according to Kallis. Majority of South Africa’s key players will be seen in action during the league.

The Protease will undergo high-intensity match practice. According to Kallis this will help Proteas to enter the T20 World Cup with confidence and momentum.

It was noted by the former all-rounder that senior figures such as Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, and captain Aiden Markram will be key to South Africa’s push for the trophy. Marco Jansen was also praised by him who has enjoyed a breakthrough with bat and ball this year.

Jansen’s Player of the Match display against India in Guwahati was highlighted by Kallis. He was also able to take 7-wickets in the previous T20 World Cup. This is an evidence of his rapid development.

Kallis described him as a premium all-rounder. “He’s always had the talent, and now he has found the right balance in his game,” Kallis said.

In the T20 World Cup South Africa will face Afghanistan, Canada, New Zealand and UAE in the group stage. The opening match will be located at Ahmedabad and is set for 9 February against Canada.
