Telenor Pakistan

Islamabad: Pakistan’s competition regulator has approved Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited’s acquisition of Telenor Pakistan, paving the way for what industry analysts describe as the country’s largest-ever telecom merger.

Network Integration Expected to Boost Coverage

Following the approval, PTCL, Ufone and Telenor Pakistan are set to combine their networks. Experts say the integration is likely to strengthen nationwide coverage and improve signal quality, particularly in areas with historically weak connectivity. They add that users may benefit from better packages, faster services and a wider range of digital options as the networks consolidate.

Merger Aligns With Pakistan’s 5G Preparations

The acquisition comes as Pakistan prepares for its first-ever 5G spectrum auction. Officials say Telenor’s integration into PTCL’s ecosystem will bolster the company’s capacity ahead of the rollout. Although the full merger process may take six to twelve months, services for existing customers of all networks will continue uninterrupted during the transition.

Deal Seen as Transformative for Market

Industry analysts expect the merger to reshape Pakistan’s telecom landscape by reducing network fragmentation and enabling operators to deploy infrastructure more efficiently. They say the consolidation could drive greater competition in service quality, ultimately benefiting millions of mobile users across the country.
