India’s Veterans World Cup host status under threat

Veteran World Cup

India’s role as the host for the 2027 Veterans Cricket World Cup is now in serious jeopardy. The Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association has warned of a potential venue change. This is due to ongoing political concerns. The core issue is India’s failure to provide a clear visa guarantee for the Pakistani squad.

Pakistan is the defending champion for this event. The tournament is set for players aged 50 and above. The PVCA chairman, Fawad Ejaz, stated that preparations in Pakistan are already underway. However, the host nation has not confirmed visa assurances. The future of the event’s venue hangs in the balance.

India has a firm deadline of December to act. They must provide written confirmation that all Pakistani players and officials will receive visas. This assurance must be given without any political conditions. Ejaz stressed this is an obligation for any host country. He noted that a formal response from India has not yet arrived.

The PVCA chief fears the necessary assurance may not materialize in time. He has now urged the International Veterans Cricket Council to step in. Ejaz insists that politics must not interfere with a global sporting event.

A venue shift would be a major embarrassment for India. It would raise serious questions about its ability to separate politics and sports. New Zealand has emerged as a strong alternative host. They are reportedly ready to take over the responsibility. New Zealand also has a reputation for providing neutral ground for international competitions.

The cricket world now watches closely. The crucial December deadline is fast approaching. Everyone waits to see if the 2027 Veterans Cricket World Cup will remain in India or find a new home.
