SP Islamabad Police Shoots Himself on Duty

Islamabad: Superintendent of Islamabad Police (SP) Adeel Akbar has shot himself while on duty near Serena Hotel. Adeel Akbar, who served as SP Industrial Area, shot himself after snatching a firearm from his guard. He was rushed to PIMS Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.


The officer was stationed at a security checkpoint when he took a pistol from his staff and fired at himself. He was earlier transferred to Poly Clinic hospital and later to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) but his life couldn’t be saved.


The Islamabad Police has refrained from issuing a statement in this regard. The motive remains unclear, with police launching an investigation.

Funeral Prayers

Funeral prayers for Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar were offered at the Police Lines Islamabad. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, senior police officials, members of law enforcement agencies and a large number of civilians attended the funeral.

Following the prayers, the officer’s body was sent to his native village with full official honors for burial.

Adeel Akbar was a highly respected officer in the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) with a distinguished career marked by dedication, professionalism, and a commitment to service. Throughout his career, Akbar earned recognition for his leadership skills, operational expertise, and his deep understanding of policing in complex and challenging environments.
