Islamabad: According to Pakistan Meteorological Department an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude shook several parta of Northern Pakistan.
Tremors were felt in areas such as Abbottabad, Gilgit, Swat, Buneer, Malakand, Chitral, Swabi, Mardan, Rawalpindi and Islamabad
Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region was the epicentre of the Earthquake with a depth of 120 kilometres. However, no immediate reports of damage or casualties were recieved.
There is a recent series of Earthquakes affecting the region, records show seismic activity in neighbouring countries lying at the intersection of Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Afghanistan suffered from a severe earthquake in September killing over 2000 people, injuring thousands and damaging valuable property.
October marks a deadly earthquake 20 years ago of 7.6 magnitude which caused widespread destruction in Azad Kashmir and various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Hazara Division, and more than 80,000 people were killed in that earthquake.
