Flood rescue operations continue in Jalalpur Pirwala, Multan

WEBDESK: Rescue operations are underway in Jalalpur Pirwala and Multan as heavy floods continue to affect the region, Rescue 1122 said on Monday.

Over 22,000 evacuated from flood hit Jalalpur Pirwala

In a statement, the emergency service said teams are working day and night to evacuate residents from flood-hit villages. Evacuations are ongoing in Naraja Bhatta, Basti Khan Bela, Basti Jafra, Basti Beth Kech, Basti Ponta, Basti Mahana Sandila, and Basti Kurman Wali.

So far, 22,860 people and 4,130 animals have been shifted to safer locations in Jalalpur Pirwala tehsil. In the last 24 hours alone, 1,396 people and 766 animals were rescued.

In Multan Saddar and City tehsils, 9,304 people and 2,998 animals have been evacuated so far, with another 34 people and 14 animals rescued during the past 24 hours. Rescue officials said children, women, and the elderly are being given priority during evacuations using boats and other safety measures.

Meanwhile, Edhi rescue workers recovered the body of a 65-year-old man from floodwaters near the Jalalpur Pirwala Interchange. Officials identified the deceased as Sada Chauhan, a resident of Bahadar Pur. The body had been in the water for two days before being found.
