5.7 magnitude earthquake jolts KP

Web Desk: Strong earthquake tremors felt in different parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral and Dir, causing panic among residents on Friday.

The tremors were felt in Malakand and Landikotal and their surrounding areas as well.

The National Seismological Centre reported that the earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 12 kilometres, making the tremors noticeable across a wide region.

The epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, an area known for frequent seismic activity due to tectonic plate movements.

Residents in affected areas reported shaking that lasted for a few seconds, prompting people to come out of their homes and buildings as a precaution. However, no immediate reports of casualties or property damage were received.

Authorities have urged the resident not to pay attention to circulating rumors but to follow only on information from official sources. As per the officials the intensity was average and there is no immediate threat of major damage.

The local administration and relevant departments were put on alert to respond promptly after the earthquake in case of any emergency.
