For those with a keen interest in astronomy, the month of May has brought a rare and beautiful gift. Today, May 31, the year’s first “Blue Moon” will appear in the skies across the world, including Pakistan.
According to astronomers, this is an unusual event because normally there is only one full moon in a month. However, a “Flower Moon” was seen on the first day of May, and now another full moon will appear on the last day of the month. This second full moon is technically known as a “Blue Moon.”
Astronomy experts have clarified that, despite its name, the moon will not actually appear blue. Instead, it will shine in its usual golden and silvery hues, appearing brighter than usual. It is also being referred to as a “Micro Moon” because it will be at its farthest point from Earth, making it appear slightly smaller in size.
In Pakistan, this beautiful sight will be visible on Sunday evening shortly after sunset on the eastern horizon, where the moon can be seen clearly with the naked eye without the need for a telescope.
Astronomers advise the curious viewers to choose locations away from city lights for the best viewing experience. Clouds free skies and an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon will provide the most favorable conditions for experiencing the phenomenon.
